Reason of name:
In the days of Byzantine rule, Kartal was a village inhabited by fishermen. This was indicated by the fossils found in the area dating back to the sixth century AD. The village was called Kartaliman back then.
And the word Kartal in Turkish means eagle, so it is possible that the name of the region came from a copy of its Byzantine name "Kartaliman", or that the name of Mount Aydos, which means in Greek, the eagle, and the eagle in Turkish, has also been used.
